Deep blue oceans, lush green fields, mountains with snow covered peaks, dense forests and hot, dry deserts. These are some of the land forms that can be seen in India, and have been mentioned in the Tamil Sangam literature And what better way to depict this other than audio visual means! Neidhal (the ocean), Paalai ( desert regions), Marudham (agricultural lands), Mullai (forests) and Kurinji (mountains) came to life with song and dance during the 22nd Annual Day Celebrations of the Centre, held on 12th December, 2011 at German Hall, T.Nagar. Mr. Venkat Rama Raja, CEO and Managing director, Ramco Group of Companies was the Chief Guest of the event. Members of the Sanmar family also graced the occasion.
Mrs. Soubhagyalakshmi, fondly called ‘Paatu Maami’ penned apt lyrics describing these terrains, and also set tune for the lyrics.. Dance master Mr. Krishna set simple but appropriate steps for these melodies. The background screens and props which replicated the sceneries perfectly, were coordinated by Mr. Gaurishankar. Both the parents and the children spent many hours of training and practice, culminating in beautiful dance pieces describing a mother’s love for her children and Mother India for her citizens.
The brightly coloured saris added to the cheer of the occasion. The tiny tots were clad in pattu pavadais (silk skirts) for the girls and smart kurtas and pyjamas for the boys. The parents went an extra step in ensuring the colour of their saris matched the outfit of their little ones. The bright stage lights were dull in comparison to the smiles on everybody’s face! The highlight of the performance was the Kolattam, the finale performed by the parents only. The catchy song and fast movements had the audience clapping hands and nodding their heads in sync with the rhythm.
On the whole, MNC brought out the potential of each special child and gave everybody an opportunity to showcase their talent. The Annual Day Celebration was concise, colourful, coordinated, energetic, joy-filled and well-organized. Hats off to the children, proud teachers, training staff, care givers and to the prouder parents!
